DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY.
Digital Photography - A short history lesson.
Early in the 1960's a student from Stanford University invented a camera with a videodisk that would store the capture on a disk for several minutes, this was the start of the phenomenon of digital photography. This new method of digitally taking photographs and recording the images to disk now meant that seeing the results of your photography was instant, opening a completely new chapter for future professional photographers and professional photography alike. Kodak in the mid 1970's started to develop methods of film less technologies. In the 1980's saw the introduction of compact disc leading to the vast increase in digital technology. The first digital camera hit the shelves for commercial sales by 1990 paving the way into the new digital world of digital photography that has changed photography in an even greater leap than the advancement from black and white to colour.
Gore & Ball Photography were one of the first UK photography companies to adopt digital photography and have maintained a constant investment of the latest high-end digital backs from Phaseone, which produce 'better than film quality', quicker and with cheaper reproduction costs.
Gore & Ball Photography comprises of professional advertising photographers Andy Gore and Harvey Ball along with the assistants and a team of stylists and set builders. COMMERCIAL PHOTOGRAPHY AND ADVERTISING PHOTOGRAPHY.
What is commercial photography?
Commercial photography is the creation of an image made or licensed for the intention of selling a service, product or inspiration where the creation of fine art photography is an end in itself.
The collaborative efforts from anything from two to two dozen people can be necessary to produce commercial creative, inspirational photographs. Account executives, art directors, make-up artists, stylists, home economist, set-builders, photographic assistants and not forgetting the professional commercial photographer all can be involved to produce that desired image. However, small product photography, pac shots, architectural photography or travel photography may find the professional photographer working independently or with only one photographic assistant.
Working with advertising agencies or direct with companies on commercial and advertising projects, professional commercial photographers Andy Gore and Harvey Ball have over 20 years experience in professional studio and location photography assignments from Scotland to London, from the Midlands to Cornwall in the UK and from America to Russia overseas. Using creativity and originality to interpret the brief and working closely with the client, they strive to produce the image that really does fulfil more than just the brief.
Operating from their drive in 5500 sq ft hire studio just outside Wolverhampton near Birmingham in the West Midlands, Gore and Ball Photography not only have the necessary digital photography equipment but also the technical and creative ability of setting up and accommodating just about any shot. Their hire studio has a 1250 sq ft infinity cove, re-touching suite, makeup and model changing room and comes complete with kitchen, drive-in access and car parking.

STUDIO PHOTOGRAPHY
What is a photographic studio and studio photography?
A photographic studio can be represented and owned by either one or more photographers. Its is an area used for commercial purposes providing space to shoot, develop, print and manipulate photographs. Since the early 20th century the corporate functions of a photographic studio has been more commonly known as a photographic agency."
You should think about the critical characters of a still life photograph. First, you must decide on the best approach. Is a straight forward depiction of the subject on the table appropriate, or does the subject require an abstract treatment, unusual props, or other imaginative styling to be interesting? In other words, does the subject call for a special concept? Once you decide on the approach you must give some thought to the composition.
Strong studio photography rely in large part on the basic principles of composition. It is important for you to establish the relationship among the objects to be photographed, on terms size, shape, colour, reflective qualities, and texture. An understanding of texture, as seen through the eye of the lens will help you relate these elements to one another. In studio photography, depth of field determines sharpness of each subject pictured and, at the same time , establishes a sense of distance, a size scale, and the relative importance of each object. Do not hesitate to arrange, rearrange, and rearrange again and again until the composition is completely pleasing to the eye.
Colour is another important element of composition. It is intertwined with lighting: the quality and amount of light can radically affect colour values. Your studio photograph will be more effective if you know what happens to colour (as well as shape) under different lighting conditions. For example, some colors, such as yellow, reflect light more than others do. As a result, a primary yellow probably would photograph best in soft, diffused light.
The shape of a subject as seen through the lens is affected by lighting conditions. The classic example is the egg. Illuminated from just one side, the oval appears elliptical. But when an oval shape is illuminated from above, it seems to flatten out. So with just a simple shifting of the lights, you can create this optical illusion as well as control the surface, texture, and colour balance.
As you contemplate each studio image, keep in mind that your ultimate goal is to successfully combine all the photograph's elements: concept, composition, colour, and shape. Making a studio photograph cohesive will enable you to create a striking, graphic image.
INDUSTRIAL PHOTOGRAPHY
Industrial photography incorporates a wide range of subject areas. Industrial photography is principally on-site photography of manufacturing plants, employees, products, processes and corporate executives. Industrial photography involves anything that relates to the working of a company, whether it be a service company, a product orientated company, a hospital, or chemical company - any company that might want to publish a product or service brochure, annual report, image piece, or capabilities brochure. The field within industry photography is extremely wide because of the variety of products and services offered in this and other countries. Industry photography, whether it be viewed strictly as such or as corporate photography, location photography, executive portraiture, or photo illustration, still focuses on industry.
Industrial photography at industrial sites, and even in corporate offices, is an exciting challenge. No two industrial sites or corporate offices are the same. Some industrial photographs involve elaborate setups; others are more direct. Some may require the use of a helicopter whilst other shoots need no more than a simple step ladder - on the other hand you could find yourself hundreds of feet below the earth's surface. Conditions at the sites are variable, as are the locations themselves. You might find yourself engulfed in dust or ash one day or sprayed with seawater the next, or you may find nothing worse than a little grime. An industrial photographer uses a combination of talent, technical mastery, experience, personality, and business acumen .Many locations are quite tame, but even these require a patient, watchful and a creative eye to produce a dynamic portrait of industry at work. Some of the work you do follows a prescribed layout. It may be an actual sketch or a verbal description that you are expected to follow. Nothing is left to chance, even when the unexpected rears its head and poses some of the ultimate challenges for the industrial photographer. When you first get the assignment, there are questions that must be asked and answered. Both you and your prospective client have expectations about the assignment - and you both have to decide and agree upon what is and is not reasonable.
INTERIOR PHOTOGRAPHY
What is interior photography?
Beautiful interior photography can transform the ordinary into the extraordinary. And when it comes to interior photography there's no more powerful way of promoting furniture, furnishings, wall coverings, designer fabrics, designer materials and life style interiors than through inspirational imagery. Money spent on creating top class interior photography will pay for itself repeatedly when used to illustrate brochures, point of sale material and for PR purposes. Whether its on location or in the studio we can help with sourcing the right venue to designing, building and styling an in-studio room-set however large or small the project. We can work with an art director or create a concept from scratch.
Some of the best interior photography can appear to the untrained eye as a deceptively simple, as something, anyone could take given a sunny day and a reasonable 35mm camera. However, such perfectly simplicity can usually only be achieved through a positive, informed understanding and interpretation of the subject, precise composition and the use of specialist lighting equipment.
